USTM Scientist Secures ISRO Project Leveraging Data from Aditya-L1 Mission
Guwahati, Oct 25: In a remarkable achievement for Assam and the entire Northeast region, Dr. Murchana Khusroo, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), has been awarded a significant research project by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) through its Regional Academic Centre for Space (RAC-S) programme. Hailing from Danish Nagar, Jorhat, Dr. Khusroo’s project, titled “Multi-Spacecraft Investigation of Solar Wind Dynamics Through Solitary Wave Analysis: Insights from Aditya-L1 Mission,” represents the first initiative from Northeast India to leverage scientific data from the ASPEX (Aditya Solar Wind Particle Experiment) and MAG (Magnetometer) instruments aboard India’s inaugural solar mission, Aditya-L1.
As the Principal Investigator of the project, Dr. Khusroo will collaborate closely with the Physical Research Laboratory and ISRO. The research is aimed at understanding solar wind dynamics within the inner heliosphere, with a particular focus on nonlinear plasma structures like solitary waves and enhancing knowledge of solar wind turbulence and space weather events. This endeavor aligns closely with the scientific goals of the Aditya-L1 mission.
Dr. Khusroo expressed her appreciation for the opportunity, stating, “It is an incredible opportunity to contribute to India’s solar mission and to represent the scientific potential of the Northeast on a national platform.”
In response to this prestigious accomplishment, USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque noted, “Dr. Murchana’s success is a matter of great pride for USTM and the entire region. It reflects our commitment to fostering research and innovation that contributes to India’s scientific and technological advancement.”
This achievement not only highlights USTM’s expanding contribution to space research but also marks a pivotal moment for the Northeast scientific community, emphasizing the region’s increasing involvement in India’s growing space science landscape.
