The General Convention of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) held on October 21 at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima concluded with a unanimous vote to merge the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) into its ranks. This decision comes following the endorsement of resolutions by the party’s Central Office Bearers (COB) and Central Executive Council (CEC) on October 18, 2025, and was validated by the participation of approximately 5,000 active members during the convention, which coincided with the party’s 63rd Foundation Day.

NPF Secretary General Achumbemo Kikon called for the active members’ approval for the merger of both political and legislative wings of the NDPP. After a show of hands, Kikon confirmed that the merger was “complete, validated, and legitimised.” He further stated that this merger would be officially communicated to the Election Commission of India.

In addition to approving the merger, the convention elected a new team of COBs, a Central Executive Council, and office bearers for the Frontals and Cells for the upcoming tenure of 2025–2030. This new leadership team will be headed by Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio, who received full confidence and support from the attendees for his dual roles.

The convention also recognized the decisive leadership of the NDPP under Chingwang Konyak and the prudent guidance of Dr. Rio, applauding their efforts to unify the two regional parties into a singular, robust political entity.

Another resolution aimed at reinforcing ties within the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) in Nagaland was adopted, with a commitment to remain a vital member of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA). The NPF pledged to continue its efforts to strengthen these alliances to foster inclusive development and advance peace in Nagaland and Manipur.

Moreover, the convention underscored the necessity of an early and honourable resolution to the prolonged Naga political issue. This commitment aims to facilitate meaningful youth participation in development and self-reliance. The delegates urged the Government of India alongside Naga political groups to expedite negotiations for a solution that is both honourable and inclusive.

The gathering expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of the Church, public encouragement, and goodwill from the NPF elders and pioneers. The party called on all societal segments to continue providing support in the future and reiterated previous resolutions encouraging old comrades and regionally minded individuals to join the NPF for the benefit of the community.
