GANGTOK: Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya, the Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution in the Government of India, visited Pakyong district on Thursday to review various developmental projects and welfare initiatives under both central and state schemes. This visit was aimed at assessing progress and ensuring effective implementation of key projects that benefit the community.

The minister began her tour by inspecting the ongoing NHIDCL road project along NH717A, which connects Ranipool to Pakyong. She urged the contractors to accelerate their work and highlighted the importance of delivering the project on time while adhering to high-quality and safety standards.

Bambhaniya then stopped by the Government Primary School in Pachey Samsing, where she engaged with students and staff. During her visit, the Chief Education Officer and the school’s headmaster provided insights into the educational infrastructure and needs of the school. The minister proposed that the Education Department establish a “Pravesh Utsav” as a regular practice to celebrate the first day of school for new students, helping to create a welcoming and positive environment for their academic journey.

Additionally, the minister reviewed the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), which is focused on augmenting and retrofitting rural water supply systems from Nampey Khola to Lower Samsing. She engaged with local residents and beneficiaries to ensure that the program’s benefits reach every household, reaffirming the commitment to the “Har Ghar Jal” initiative which aims to provide safe drinking water for all.

Bambhaniya also visited the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Centre at Pakyong to discuss child welfare and nutritional services. She assessed the progress of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana in Namcheybong Block, where she met local farmer Sukman Rai, gaining firsthand insights into their challenges and needs.

Her itinerary included a stop at the Pakyong Primary Health Centre, where the chief medical officer discussed ongoing healthcare initiatives and the challenges faced in reaching remote areas. Furthermore, at Pachey, she met with members of the Sanskriti Self Help Group, praising their efforts in women’s empowerment and livelihood development. She also toured a handloom training center at Pacheykhani, recognizing the hard work of local artisans in preserving traditional crafts.

The minister concluded her visit with a review of the RDFS Power Scheme, focusing on revamping the power distribution network from Pakyong to Rorathang, alongside the superintending engineer of the Power Department.

While speaking to the media, Bambhaniya remarked on the transformative developments occurring in Northeast India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, noting that new avenues of growth are being opened. It is worth mentioning that the Union Minister is on a four-day official visit to Sikkim, having arrived in Gangtok on Wednesday.
