Meghalaya Congress Demands Justice Amidst Shocking Shillong Assault Allegations
The Meghalaya Congress, supported by its youth and women’s wings, staged a peaceful protest in Shillong on Wednesday, denouncing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) over serious allegations of sexual assault connected to its members. The demonstration spotlighted the case of Anandu Aji from Kottayam, whose suicide, according to the Congress, stemmed from relentless harassment and abuse.
Prominent figures leading the protest included Meghalaya Youth Congress president Timjim K Momin, Indian Youth Congress general secretary Tarh Johny, and Meghalaya Mahila Congress president Joplyn Shylla, accompanied by numerous party officials and supporters. The protesters demanded accountability, transparency, and justice for victims of alleged sexual misconduct.
In a formal statement, the Meghalaya Youth Congress called for an independent and impartial investigation into the sexual misconduct allegations involving RSS affiliates. The party stressed that those responsible should face accountability, regardless of their political or organizational affiliations.
The leaders underscored that silence or inaction in the face of such grave allegations not only erodes public trust in institutions but also deteriorates the moral fabric of society. They criticized what they perceive as an increasing culture of impunity for groups apparently shielded by political power.
Congress representatives indicated that Wednesday’s demonstration forms part of a broader initiative by the party aimed at upholding the rights, dignity, and safety of all individuals, particularly women and youth, across India.
