IIT Kharagpur has launched a Platinum Jubilee Special Drive aimed at bolstering innovation and research through its newly established Research Park in Rajarhat, Kolkata. This initiative, part of the institute’s 75th-anniversary celebrations, seeks to enhance collaboration among academia, industry, researchers, and entrepreneurs, facilitating the transformation of ideas into technologies and products that benefit society.
Situated in Rajarhat’s emerging innovation center, the Research Park is designed to bridge the gap between the institute and its industry partners. The park will focus on key areas such as artificial intelligence, clean energy, healthcare, climate resilience, green transportation, and smart manufacturing.
Prof. Suman Chakraborty, the Director of IIT Kharagpur, indicated that the Research Park signifies a new growth phase for the institute, describing it as “a vibrant crucible where ideas evolve into solutions with real-world impact.” He emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, “Through this Platinum Jubilee Drive, we are inviting our extended family, faculty, students, and our powerful global alumni network, to co-create the next generation of technologies and enterprises that will define India’s innovation future. This is not merely an expansion, it is a transformation.”
The initiative welcomes participation from faculty, students, alumni, and industry professionals. It promises opportunities for collaborative research, innovation projects, and start-up incubation, with facilities for joint labs, innovation hubs, and dedicated workspaces that enable close collaboration between start-ups, corporate partners, and IIT Kharagpur experts.
In conjunction with the celebrations, the institute has issued a special poster outlining various collaboration opportunities, including innovation suites and alumni-led ventures. This move aligns with IIT Kharagpur’s mission to advance national development through technology and entrepreneurship, positioning the Research Park as a vital catalyst for industry-academia partnerships.
