The Ernakulam Rural police launched a vibrant musical event on October 13, 2025, in Athani, near Nedumbassery, as part of their ongoing anti-drug initiative aimed at combating the rising drug menace in the region. Over 25 singers, both seasoned professionals and enthusiastic amateurs, came together to entertain and raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. The unique karaoke event, which will run until October 18, is designed to engage the community and cultivate a “people’s resistance” against drug peddling.

Taking place each evening from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., the program encourages public participation, with attendees given the opportunity to register and take the stage. A sound system has been set up at the Athani Airport Signal Junction to facilitate this musical gathering. Each day of the event will feature notable guests, amplifying the initiative’s community outreach.

District Police Chief M. Hemalatha inaugurated the event, emphasizing its mission to harness the universal appeal of music to liberate society from the grip of harmful substances. “The event is aimed at using the powers of music to free society from the influence of toxic substances,” she stated, highlighting the importance of cultural engagement in addressing social issues.

Playback singer Joby John graced the event as chief guest, lending his voice to the cause. Deputy Superintendent of Police T.R. Rajesh delivered the keynote address, supported by Additional Superintendent of Police M. Krishnan and M.V. Sanil, the secretary of the Police Officers Association district. Together, they underscored the necessity of community involvement and proactive measures in combating drug abuse.

This musical initiative follows a recent screening of an educational film for migrant laborers in Perumbavoor, where the police also aimed to raise awareness about the perils of drug addiction. According to sources, such efforts underline the commitment of the Ernakulam Rural police to foster a healthier, drug-free environment through engaging and community-focused actions.

With the ongoing rise in drug-related incidents, authorities recognize the urgent need for effective outreach strategies. Music, with its ability to connect and inspire, serves as a powerful medium in this endeavor, promoting unity while advocating for a drug-free society. As the event unfolds over the coming days, it looks poised to make a significant impact in the fight against drug abuse within the community.

This innovative approach by the Ernakulam Rural police not only entertains but also educates, aiming to empower individuals against the increasing threat of substance abuse. By blending cultural experiences with crucial social messaging, the event stands as a testament to the power of collaboration in addressing pressing societal challenges.

As the initiative continues, community members are encouraged to participate and lend their voices against the drug menace, reinforcing the collective responsibility of society in tackling this critical issue.
