The Government of Telangana is enhancing tourist safety and experiences by launching dedicated Tourist Police Units across major attractions in the state. As a key part of this initiative, a specialized training program for 80 police personnel took place from October 6 to 9 at the National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM) in Hyderabad. This training focused on orientation and sensitization for effectively serving the needs of visitors.

Following the classroom training, participants engaged in field visits on October 10 and 11 to renowned tourist spots, including Yadagirigutta, Bhongir Fort, Golconda Fort, Qutb Shahi Tombs, and Lumbini Park. These excursions provided the trainees with hands-on experience in tourist management, which Valluru Kranthi, the Director of the Department of Tourism, emphasized as critical for their roles.

The trained officers will be deployed at key destinations across seven districts, notably in Hyderabad at prominent sites like Charminar, Golconda Fort, and the Salar Jung Museum. Officers are expected to report for duty on October 13, where they will be required to uphold high standards of punctuality, discipline, and professionalism.

The formal inauguration of the Tourist Police Units occurred on September 27, coinciding with World Tourism Day during the Telangana Tourism Conclave 2025 held in Hyderabad. This initiative is part of the Safe Tourism implementation under the Telangana Tourism Police policy, which spans from 2025 to 2030. The government aims to promote safe tourism through the establishment of these dedicated police units, which will actively patrol tourist hotspots.

Deployment of the trained personnel includes a range of significant cultural and historical sites. In addition to those in Hyderabad, officers will also cover important destinations such as the Yadadri Laxmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Pochampally Rural Tourism Destination, and the Sree Ramalingeshwara Swamy Temple in Keesaragutta. Other areas of focus include Vikarabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mulugu, Nalgonda, and Nagarkurnool, with coverage extending to sites like the Ramappa Temple, Kinnerasani Dam, and the Sri Parvati Jadala Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple in Cheruvugattu.

The Telangana government’s strategy includes implementing measures specifically tailored to ensure the safety of female travelers, such as a Tourism Friendly Index (TFI) to evaluate the safety standards of these destinations. CCTV surveillance will also be installed at all tourist spots, creating a secure and welcoming environment for visitors.

As these initiatives roll out, the state government demonstrates its commitment to fostering a safe and enriched tourist experience, positioning Telangana as an attractive destination for both domestic and international travelers.

For more information about the Telangana Tourism initiative and safety measures in place, stay updated as the program develops and tourist attractions enrich their offerings with enhanced security and support.
