On Monday, August 19, 2024, India’s benchmark indices Nifty50 and Sensex experienced a flat trading session after opening with strong gains. The Sensex initially rose by 243.41 points, but by 12:20 PM, it had leveled off, trading at 80,457.76—up merely 20.92 points or 0.03%. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty50, which opened up by 95.20 points, was trading at 24,564.40, an increase of 23.25 points or 0.09%.
Key movers in the BSE market included NTPC, UltraTech Cement, Tata Steel, and Adani Ports, which emerged as the top gainers. Conversely, Infosys, TCS, Nestle India, and Tech Mahindra were among the top laggards. On the NSE, BPCL, ONGC, and NTPC led as the top gainers, while Mahindra & Mahindra, Tech Mahindra, and Nestle India were on the losing end.
Broader market indices also showed resilience, with Nifty SmallCap rising by 1% and Nifty MidCap trading 0.41% higher. Sector-wise, Nifty PSU Bank, OMCs (Oil Marketing Companies), and Media showcased robust performance, each climbing over 1%.
