Assam Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, September 28, for honoring the memory of the late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg during the 126th episode of Mann Ki Baat. In this address, PM Modi highlighted Zubeen Garg along with another cultural icon of Assam, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, stirring deep emotions among the people of the state.
Speaking to reporters, Minister Hazarika said, “We are grateful to the Hon’ble Prime Minister for recognizing their legacy and supporting the people of Assam during this time of sorrow.” He shared his personal connection with Zubeen Garg, noting that the artist had resonated with millions. “We shared a personal bond with Zubeen. His unexpected passing has left us in profound grief. Like many in Assam, I was a fan of his music, and his songs accompanied our youth,” Hazarika remarked.
Furthermore, Hazarika mentioned the state’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, is taking a personal interest in the investigation related to Zubeen Garg’s death. “The Chief Minister is treating this matter with utmost seriousness. He has directed ministers not to distract him with other issues so he can focus entirely on the details surrounding Zubeen Garg. If any wrongdoing is uncovered, those responsible will face consequences,” the minister emphasized.
Hazarika also noted that the state is collectively mourning and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving Zubeen Garg’s artistic legacy for future generations. Plans are in place to organize cultural programs, memorial ceremonies, and initiatives in schools and cultural institutions to ensure that Zubeen’s artistry continues to inspire young talent.
On the investigative front, Hazarika assured the citizens of Assam that the process would be completely transparent. “The Chief Minister has mandated us to explore every avenue. Justice will be served if anyone is found culpable,” he asserted.
