CM Golay Celebrates Ayurveda Day: A Strong Commitment to Wellness
GANGTOK: On the occasion of the 10th Ayurveda Day, Chief Minister P.S. Golay reaffirmed the State government’s commitment to enhancing traditional medicine as part of holistic healthcare. In his message, he extended heartfelt greetings to all and acknowledged Lord Dhanvantari as the divine symbol of health and healing. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the timeless wisdom and practices of Ayurveda, noting, “Ayurveda heals not only the body but also the soul.”
The Chief Minister highlighted significant advancements in the sector within Sikkim, mentioning the establishment of a fully independent AYUSH department, a Panchakarma Centre at STNM Hospital, and a 50-bedded AYUSH hospital in Gyalshing, along with AYUSH wings in district hospitals and primary health centres. He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of AYUSH for their support, stating, “This historic step will ensure focused policies, adequate resources, and systematic development for traditional systems of medicine in the state.”
Golay pointed to this year’s theme, “Ayurveda for People and Planet,” as a reflection of their vision in the face of increasing stress, pollution, and lifestyle-related health issues. He stated that Ayurveda serves as a beacon of hope, offering holistic healthcare solutions that foster harmony within the body, mind, and soul while promoting a relationship with nature. He recalled how Ayurveda proved crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic, serving as a source of hope for many.
Stating that Sikkim aims to be a model state for AYUSH, the Chief Minister outlined plans to leverage the State’s biodiversity, pristine environment, and traditional knowledge to promote wellness, research, and medical tourism. “Our vision is to integrate AYUSH into mainstream healthcare, expand educational and training opportunities, and inspire our youth to become knowledgeable practitioners in this field,” he said, expressing confidence that Sikkim could lead in AYUSH nationally and become a global destination for holistic healthcare.
Golay also conveyed thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Ministry of AYUSH, and the Central government for their ongoing support. He likened the state’s progress in AYUSH to that of a newborn learning to walk and appealed for continued guidance from the Centre.
On this significant day, the Chief Minister extended his best wishes to all officials and staff in the State AYUSH department. “Let us take a pledge to adopt Ayurveda not only as a system of medicine but as a lifestyle choice that brings us toward a healthier, happier, and more harmonious future,” he concluded.
