Urgent: Flooding at Manipur’s JNIMS Disrupts Vital Medical Services
State-run Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal, Manipur, has ordered the immediate evacuation of patients due to rising floodwaters surrounding the hospital on Tuesday evening. Medical superintendent Dr. Kh Lokeshwar issued a notice stating that all patients across different wards must be evacuated, and new admissions are suspended until further notice. The flooding was triggered by the breaching of the Iril River at Kshetri Awang Leikai, which has affected several areas within the hospital complex and its access roads. The inundation has also impacted key government institutions in the vicinity, including the Imphal East Deputy Commissioner’s office and the Porompat police station, complicating administrative response efforts.
This marks the second instance in four months that JNIMS, a crucial medical facility for the state, has faced significant flooding and interruptions to medical services. As the situation develops, some floodwaters have receded in the Thoubal district; however, thousands of homes and infrastructures remain submerged, indicating ongoing challenges for the affected communities and the local administration. The situation is being closely monitored as recovery efforts begin in the region.
