YMA Urges Government to Enforce Strict ILP Guidelines: A Call to Action
The Central Coordination Committee (CCC), the second highest decision-making body of the Young Mizo Association (YMA), has called on the Mizoram government to strengthen and systematize guidelines for the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, adhering to the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation of 1873. This decision came during the CCC’s recent meeting, where they outlined their agenda for the upcoming YMA general conference, known as ‘Inkhawmpui Lian,’ scheduled for October 21-23 in Sakawrdai village, which is located near the border with Manipur.
Among the key topics to be discussed at the conference is the need to streamline ILP rules and guidelines. CCC members expressed concerns about the current complexities surrounding the ILP and confirmed that their objective is to ensure more effective regulation. The meeting also resulted in the endorsement of legislative proposals, including the creation of the Mizoram Water Source Catchment Area Protection Act aimed at safeguarding local water resources.
This initiative reflects the YMA’s commitment to environmental protection and the sustainable management of Mizoram’s natural resources, emphasizing the importance of both ILP regulation and water conservation in the state.
