In a video message released by the Nepal Army, General Sigdel emphasized that “dialogue and consensus must be the way forward” to address the grievances driving the nationwide agitation. He called for stability and urged protesters to avoid impulsive actions, encouraging a focus on peaceful solutions to the country’s challenges.
This appeal comes during a politically precarious period following the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, which has heightened uncertainty across the nation. Political analysts interpret the Army Chief’s statement as a strategic message from the military, opening discussions on potential government-youth dialogue.
Additionally, the Ministry of Defence and the Nepal Army Headquarters jointly issued an advisory warning against the misuse of protests by groups involved in arson, looting, and vandalism. The advisory highlighted that protecting public safety is a top priority.
To maintain law and order, security personnel have been deployed starting at 10:00 PM on Bhadra 24, 2082, according to the Bikram Sambat calendar. Authorities have called on citizens to cooperate and avoid actions that could worsen the situation, promising to provide further updates following security assessments.
