Mata Tripura Sundari Temple Renovation: Anticipation Builds for PM Modi’s Inauguration
Agartala, 6th September 2025: The historic Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur, one of the revered 51 Shakti Peeths, is set to unveil its newly renovated form under the Centre’s PRASAD scheme. This transformation, initiated in 2018 after a shift in state leadership, was spearheaded by former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb to enhance the temple’s spiritual and cultural significance.
An administrative delegation led by Chief Secretary JK Sinha and Director General Anurag visited Matabari for security preparations on Saturday. They were accompanied by District Superintendent of Police Dr. Kiran Kumar K and the District Magistrate, along with other officials.
The renovation is now in its final stages, featuring structural upgrades and aesthetic enhancements, as well as improved facilities for devotees and local vendors. The temple’s upper sanctum has been refurbished, while the lower area has been redesigned to house shops. Additionally, exterior painting and lighting installations are nearing completion.
Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy confirmed that the government is coordinating with the Prime Minister’s Office to set a date for the official inauguration. “We’re hopeful that the Prime Minister will inaugurate the temple’s new look. Discussions have already taken place,” he stated. He mentioned that Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha is working to avoid the festive rush of Durga Puja and Kali Puja, aiming for a more suitable date.
The anticipation surrounding the project is not just confined to Udaipur. Devotees from across Tripura and beyond are eagerly awaiting the Prime Minister’s visit and the formal unveiling of the temple’s revitalized appearance. This renovation is viewed as a significant step toward boosting religious tourism and preserving the cultural heritage of the state.
