Shocking Burglary in Salem: Heartbreaking Theft of Precious Jewellery and Cash
Burglars targeted a retired Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) driver’s home in Salem, making off with jewelry and cash. The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the residence of 64-year-old M. Venkatachalam in Mettupatti Thathanur, near Karipatti.
According to police reports, Venkatachalam and his family had left for a relative’s house in the Tiruchi district on September 1. Upon returning the following morning, they discovered their front door lock had been forcibly broken, and approximately 50 sovereigns of jewelry along with ₹50,000 in cash were missing from their almirah. Law enforcement officials quickly arrived at the scene and enlisted forensic experts to collect fingerprints. A sniffer dog was also utilized to aid in the investigation. The police have initiated a case and are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify potential leads.
In a separate but similarly distressing event, M.S. Mani, a 37-year-old businessman residing on Judge Road in Kannankurichi, reported a theft at his newly opened cloth shop on Five Roads. When employees arrived on Tuesday morning, they found the office room had been broken into, with ₹6.85 lakh in cash stolen from the counter. The investigation revealed that a suspect entered the shop via the roof around 2 a.m. The Alagapuram police have also registered this incident and are actively searching for the perpetrator.
Both incidents underscore rising concerns about security in the region. As the community reels from these events, locals are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. Police investigations continue in both cases, with the hope that swift action will bring the culprits to justice.
The police are urging anyone who may have additional information related to these thefts to come forward, as every detail could be crucial in apprehending the suspects involved. The presence of advanced forensic techniques and CCTV surveillance in the area may aid efforts in resolving these cases effectively.
As the investigation unfolds, residents are reminded of the importance of taking precautions to enhance home security and protect their valuables. In light of these incidents, community engagement in neighborhood watch initiatives could also play a significant role in deterring future crimes.
