Amman, August 17 (IANS) – Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned recent attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinians in the West Bank. The most recent incident occurred in a village east of Qalqilya two days ago and resulted in the death of a young man, injuries to dozens, and significant material damage to Palestinian property.
Sufian Qudah, the Ministry’s Spokesperson, on Friday, held Israel responsible for the recurrence of the attacks, according to Xinhua news agency. He emphasized that Israel bears full responsibility for these violations and the subsequent assaults, attributing them to its ongoing unilateral aggressive policies. These policies include the construction and expansion of settlements and the displacement of Palestinians, targeting their lands and homes.
Qudah reiterated Jordan’s firm rejection of the attacks against Palestinians and called on the international community to halt Israel’s ongoing violations of international law and humanitarian law. He urged global actors to enforce Israel’s compliance, provide necessary protection for the Palestinian people, and support their right to freedom and a sovereign state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
In his renewed plea, Qudah called for the international community to assume responsibility and present a united front against Israel’s persistent breaches of international law. He also advocated for punitive measures to end the terrorism perpetrated by racist settlers and stressed the need for protection of the Palestinian people, meeting their rights to a sovereign state delineated by the boundaries established on June 4, 1967.
Qudah’s statements underline the heightened tensions and the urgent need for international intervention to ensure the protection of Palestinian rights and the cessation of violence and aggressive expansionist policies by Israel.
