Assam Deputy Speaker Demands Legal Action Against Mahua Moitra’s Remarks on Amit Shah
Assam Assembly Deputy Speaker Numal Momin has sharply criticized Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra over her alleged comments directed at Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In a media statement, Momin labeled Moitra’s remarks as “shameful” and an affront to the dignity of a senior constitutional authority. He further accused her of representing a party that supports “pro-Rohingya” and “pro-Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrator” stances, claiming that the TMC is undermining Indian culture.
Momin argued, “We cannot expect more than this from Mahua Moitra. Their party’s main agenda is to turn West Bengal into an Islamic state. The way she has denigrated Amit Shah is highly condemnable. A legal case should be filed against her.”
He also alleged that the TMC engages in appeasement politics, pointing to the decision to declare holidays for Muharram while purportedly limiting Durga Puja processions. According to Momin, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her associates, including Moitra, are working contrary to the interests of Hindus.
The Deputy Speaker asserted that such statements could ultimately weaken the TMC’s position in West Bengal, stating, “The Trinamool Congress and its leaders are fearful of losing power this time. Such remarks will contribute to their political downfall.” Momin has called for “exemplary action” against Moitra, suggesting that this would deter other TMC members from making similar comments in the future.
