Arunachal Shooting: Teen Recovering After Suspect Surrenders
A 35-year-old man accused of shooting a 13-year-old boy in Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh, turned himself in to the police on August 29, authorities have reported. The suspect, identified as Jiten Siyum, allegedly shot the boy on the morning of August 27 near Model Village, in close proximity to Sapna Engineering Garage. Following the incident, a manhunt was initiated.
According to SP Nyelam Nega of Naharlagun, law enforcement teams launched an extensive search operation immediately after the shooting, exploring multiple suspected hideouts. “The accused finally surrendered this morning, and we have recovered the firearm used in the crime,” noted Nega.
The boy sustained gunshot wounds reportedly at close range, and the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. Notably, Siyum took the child to the hospital before fleeing the scene.
“This behavior is highly unusual. His surrender will now help us ascertain the motive and sequence of events more clearly,” added SP Nega. Fortunately, the boy has since been discharged from the hospital. “The child has returned home. His recovery is a matter of great relief to us all,” he stated.
Authorities are exploring all possible angles in the case, including whether the shooting was intentional or accidental. The firearm that was recovered has been sent for forensic examination, which is expected to provide further clarity on the situation.
