Sikkim Officers Attend National Workshop to Boost Vibrant Village Initiatives
A two-day national workshop on the Vibrant Village Programme was conducted in New Delhi on August 25 and 26, 2025. Organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the event gathered officers from border states, central ministries, and central Armed Police forces to discuss strategies for sustainable development of India’s frontier villages. The workshop was inaugurated by Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, who launched the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP) logo and encouraged all participants to embrace the Programme sincerely, ensuring its objectives are met effectively.
Throughout the workshop, various states presented their best practices and challenges in implementing VVP. Central Armed Police Forces also contributed by outlining the rationale for selecting specific villages as well as the issues faced in border areas, proposing a collaborative approach with State Governments and Union Territory administrations to achieve set targets. Insights from central ministries focused on their existing schemes and how these can be integrated with the Vibrant Villages Programme for improved outcomes.
The workshop addressed several key themes, including the progress of VVP-I and the future roadmap for VVP-II, as well as the development of a VVP app. This app will enable district and state nodal officers to monitor project implementation in real time, with fund allocation under VVP-II facilitated through the digital platform. Strategies to enhance connectivity and infrastructure in remote areas were also highlighted, along with opportunities for livelihood and skill development through tourism, animal husbandry, and cooperation. Additionally, the use of the Digital VVP Dashboard and the PM Gati Shakti Portal was emphasized for better planning and oversight, as was the promotion of cultural heritage and youth engagement in border areas.
Officers from various states, including Shri Tushar Nikhare (IAS, DC Gangtok), Shri Dhiraj Subedi (SCS, DC Soreng), and others attended the workshop. A representative from the Planning and Development Department participated in discussions on the involvement of the private sector, NGOs, and civil society organizations in preserving the rich cultural heritage in border areas. The insights gained from this workshop will empower these officers to reinforce the implementation of the Vibrant Villages Programme in Sikkim, aligning with both state priorities and the national vision.
