Transforming Commutes: Radha Nagar Subway in Chromepet Nears Completion with Exciting New Possibilities!
The Radha Nagar subway project in Chromepet, Chennai, is nearing completion, a significant development for local residents and commuters. Positioned strategically across railway tracks near the Chromepet railway station, this subway aims to enhance connectivity and ease traffic flow in the area.
In a recent agreement, the Southern Railway department has allocated a section of land near the platform to the State Highways department. This move is essential for vehicular access to GST Road, addressing longstanding traffic issues caused by vehicles detouring via Rajendra Prasad Road to avoid level crossing delays. The initiative was accelerated following a meeting between Pallavaram MLA E. Karunanidhi and Shailendra Singh, the Chennai Divisional Railway Manager.
Social activist Santhanam highlighted that this critical project had faced numerous delays over the years due to land acquisition challenges. He expressed optimism that the MLA’s involvement would finally pave the way for swift completion. With the subway prepared to replace the level crossing gate no. 27, it promises to significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve safety for motorists and pedestrians alike.
A senior official from the Chennai division of Southern Railway confirmed the land allocation necessary for access facilities. Currently, the subway awaits final touches for the approach road to GST Road. Plans are underway to shift the bus stand located outside the railway station to enhance traffic management once the subway opens.
According to sources within the Highways Department, ongoing construction includes the sump room for the well, with tenders issued for purchasing a pump and genset. “We are waiting for a few dry days to lay the BT layer on the approach roads and finalize the painting. We expect to complete the work in about a month,” a departmental source explained.
Residents like S. Rangaraj have expressed relief and excitement, noting that the subway initiative, which started over a decade ago in 2010, has finally reached a pivotal stage. “The subway set to be commissioned is great news for motorists,” he added, reflecting the sentiments of many who have awaited this development.
The Radha Nagar subway is poised to improve daily commutes, enhance road safety, and streamline traffic patterns in Chromepet. With ribbon-cutting expected soon, this project marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to modernize Chennai’s transportation infrastructure.
As this pivotal project wraps up, it’s evident that the collaboration between various authorities and local leaders has played a crucial role in bringing this long-awaited infrastructure to fruition, promising a more connected and efficient future for the residents of Chromepet and beyond.
