Nurse in Uttarakhand Allegedly Raped, Murdered, and Body Dumped in Uttar Pradesh
A nurse from a private hospital in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, was allegedly raped and murdered, and her body was found in a vacant plot in Dibdiba village, Uttar Pradesh, near the Uttarakhand border, police reported on Friday, August 16, 2024. The nurse had been missing since July 30, while returning home from work. Her mutilated body was discovered on August 8, making identification initially difficult, according to Udham Singh Nagar’s Superintendent of Police, Manjunath TC.
The investigation revealed the accused, Dharmendra, a laborer from Gadarpur, Uttarakhand, who was arrested in Rajasthan on August 13. Dharmendra confessed to following the nurse with the intention to rob her, as he was in financial need. Upon reaching a deserted area, he attacked, strangled, and raped her before crushing her face with a stone. He then stole her belongings and fled the scene.
The nurse’s body was found not far from her residence in Rampur district, Uttar Pradesh, which borders Udham Singh Nagar district. Police were able to trace her whereabouts through CCTV footage and by tracking her mobile phone location after her sister lodged a missing person complaint on July 31.
This horrific incident has emerged against the backdrop of widespread protests over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at a state-run medical college and hospital in Kolkata. The nation is grappling with these back-to-back brutal cases of violence against women.
