Urgent Alert for Flyers! IndiGo and Akasa Advise Passengers Amidst Mumbai’s Intense Rains – Check IMD’s Critical Forecast Now!
Mumbai is bracing for continued heavy rainfall, prompting IndiGo Airlines and Akasa Air to issue advisories for travelers. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed an Orange Alert over the city, forecasting significant downpours through Tuesday, August 19. This warning comes on the heels of a weekend deluge that saturated Mumbai, with reports of over 200 mm of rain recorded in parts of the city early Saturday.
Residents and travelers are advised to stay updated on flight statuses due to adverse weather conditions affecting key transport routes. “Rainfall is affecting large parts of Mumbai, and some roads towards the airport are experiencing water build-up and traffic delays. If you have a flight, please leave earlier than usual and check your flight status on our app or website. Be careful on wet and slippery roads,” IndiGo communicated via X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Similarly, Akasa Air echoed these sentiments with its own advisory, urging passengers to factor in additional travel time when heading to the airport. “Due to heavy rainfall in certain parts of Mumbai and Goa, we anticipate slow-moving traffic and congestion on roads leading to the airport. To ensure a seamless travel experience, we request you to plan for additional travel time to reach the airport well in time for your flight,” stated Akasa Air in their update on X.
As the monsoon continues, local authorities are closely monitoring water levels in the Mithi River and Tulsi Lake, both of which have seen significant rises due to the relentless rain. The IMD not only issued alerts for Mumbai but also extended warnings to nearby regions including Palghar, Thane, Sindhudurg, and Jalgaon, all of which are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Moreover, the situation is critical in Ratnagiri, where a Red Alert is in effect for Sunday, followed by Raigad on Monday. As Mumbai grappled with considerable rainfall, low-lying areas succumbed to flooding, disrupting local train services and leading to traffic delays. Tragically, two individuals lost their lives, and others were injured in a landslide incident in the Vikhroli Parksite area during the storm.
With the threat of further rainfall looming, residents and commuters are advised to exercise caution. It’s essential to stay informed about travel itineraries and to prepare for possible delays. The IMD continues to monitor weather conditions closely, and further updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
As Mumbai navigates this challenging weather, both airlines stress the importance of making arrangements and staying proactive regarding travel plans. Whether flying out of the city or venturing through its soaked streets, staying alert and prepared is more crucial than ever.
