
Sikkim’s Vibrant Celebration of 79th Independence Day: A Joyous Tribute
GANGTOK, (IPR): The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm today at Paljor Stadium, joining the celebrations across the nation. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay delivered a moving address, honoring the nation’s freedom fighters for their unwavering courage and sacrifices. He expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the Prime Minister in promoting Sikkim’s development and emphasized the importance of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. The Chief Minister outlined upcoming developmental schemes and key initiatives the state government plans to undertake across various sectors.
The event commenced with the Chief Minister hoisting the National Flag, followed by a national salute. He reviewed the Independence Day parade, which featured contingents from several organizations, including ITBP, SSB, SAP, Sikkim Police, and various schools, showcasing a vibrant display of unity and discipline. Parade Commander Deputy Superintendent of Police Sonam Yangkeela Bhutia and Police Inspector Rajeev Mukhia led the procession.
Post-parade, awards were handed out to recognize exemplary service in various categories, complemented by significant launches facilitated by the Chief Minister. Among the notable releases were several publications aimed at enhancing Sikkim’s governance and transparency. These included a book titled “Ecclesiastical Affairs in Sikkim,” a comprehensive overview from the Ecclesiastical Department, and “Database of Passed Out Trainees (Artisans and Weavers) from 1957 to 2025,” which serves as a crucial tool for policy-making.
Other initiatives announced included the “Sikkim State Data Policy,” designed to improve data management for public services, and a “Digital Police Web Application” to streamline police operations. Additionally, the “Online Property Registration System” aims to boost transparency in land dealings, while the official website “IPR.Sikkim.Gov.in” was launched to provide access to verified public information.
Following these announcements, a captivating pipe band performance featured patriotic tunes, transitioning into cultural displays from schools like Enchey SSS and West Point SSS. The celebration also highlighted the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative, showcasing cultural talents from Uttar Pradesh and Manipur, emphasizing India’s rich diversity and unity.
In recognition of excellence, the Sikkim Police (Female) Platoon was awarded the title of All Round Best Platoon in Division A, with the Sikkim Forest contingent earning similar honors in Division B. PNGSSS stood out as the All Round Best School Contingent, further enriching the spirit of the day.
