Heroic Doctors Brave Rain in Massive Protest, Standing in Solidarity with Kolkata Medico
Doctor Protests Surge at Multiple Hospitals in Telangana Over Kolkata Tragedy

A significant protest broke out at Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad on Thursday evening, driven by the recent rape and murder of a female medical student at Kolkata’s R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. Undeterred by heavy rain, junior doctors gathered within the hospital premises, chanting "No Security, No Service," to vocalize their demands for improved safety measures.
This demonstration was part of a broader wave of unrest, marking the second consecutive day of protests at government hospitals across Telangana. Hundreds of junior doctors continued their boycott of Outpatient (OPD) and elective OT duties, expressing solidarity and demanding better security provisions.
At Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad, Resident Doctors commenced their protest at 9 a.m. with a rally within the hospital grounds, followed by a brief ‘rasta roko andolan’ outside the main gate. The NIMS Resident Doctors’ Association later announced a boycott of all OPD and elective OT services for 48 hours starting 8 a.m. on August 16, ensuring that emergency services would remain operational.
Meanwhile, Osmania Medical College also witnessed ongoing protests from junior doctors. These demonstrations were more subdued in respect to Independence Day, thereby not affecting healthcare services as significantly as the previous day.
The coordinated demonstrations highlight the growing frustration among medical professionals in Telangana, who are demanding urgent action to improve safety conditions for doctors and medical students.
