BPF’s Powerful ‘Ashirbad Rally’ in Kokrajhar: Hagrama Critiques Political Drama
In a powerful display of political momentum ahead of the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) organized a large-scale Ashirbad Rally on Saturday at the DN Himatsingkha playground in Santinagar, Kokrajhar City. The event attracted thousands of supporters from various constituencies within the Kokrajhar subdivision, all gathering to offer blessings and show solidarity with the BPF’s announced candidates. This rally served as the official introduction of key candidates including Hagrama Mohilary (Deborgaon), Derhasad Basumatary (Salakati), Prakash Basumatary (Dotma), Dhaneswar Goyari (Baokhungri), and Kamud Chandra Narzary (Bonorgaon).
BPF President Hagrama Mohilary hailed the rally as a significant success, emphasizing, “The Ashirbad Rally under the six constituencies has been successful. We are organizing similar rallies across the BTR to consolidate our party’s base ahead of the polls.” Regarding the ongoing discussions about a possible political alliance with the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), Mohilary noted that talks are in progress due to requests from various groups, including the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU). “We will move forward in the interest of the people,” he stated.
Mohilary also took a jab at former BPF leaders Chandan Brahma and Kampa Borgoyari, who have defected to the UPPL, labeling their departure as a “political drama” and accusing them of betraying the Bodo community’s trust. With the BTC elections anticipated in September, this rally is perceived as a strategic maneuver by the BPF to energize its grassroots workers, reaffirm voter loyalty, and reclaim political terrain in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
