Indian Army Refutes Pakistan’s Ceasefire Violation Claims in Poonch
Amid reports of a potential ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army has firmly denied any exchange of fire from across the border. In an official statement, the Army declared, “It is clarified that there has been no ceasefire violation along the Line of Control,” as reported by ANI.
This clarification comes in response to earlier claims from unnamed official sources alleging that Pakistani troops had opened unprovoked fire in the Poonch sector, triggering a 15-minute retaliatory response from Indian forces. However, the Army’s official communication states that no such incident took place, nor were there any reported casualties.
The clarification is significant given the reaffirmation of the bilateral ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan in 2021, which had considerably decreased hostilities along the border. While the LoC has maintained relative stability since the agreement, intermittent claims of ceasefire breaches occasionally arise, leading to confusion until on-ground verifications are completed.
In a separate development, the Indian Army successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the LoC, eliminating two terrorists trying to cross into Indian territory. This counter-infiltration operation, named ‘Operation ShivShakti,’ was initiated last month based on reliable intelligence from internal Army surveillance teams, in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP). Troops from the White Knight Corps executed the operation.
The White Knight Corps announced on X (formerly Twitter), “In a successful anti-infiltration operation, alert troops of the #IndianArmy eliminated two terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control.” They further emphasized that “swift action and accurate firepower thwarted the nefarious designs,” and mentioned the recovery of three weapons from the operation site. The success of this mission was attributed to coordinated intelligence efforts between Army units and the JKP.
Officials noted that the recovered weapons suggest the terrorists were heavily armed and potentially part of a broader scheme to destabilize peace in the region. This quick response underscores the heightened vigilance observed along sensitive sectors of the LoC, despite the existing ceasefire agreement.
Security officials praised the effective collaboration between the Indian Army and the JKP, highlighting the critical role of timely intelligence and prompt execution in deterring cross-border terrorist infiltration.
