The user, who resides in Ardee City, noted, “Since Sunday, there’s a problem we all are facing: the maids and cooks have vanished, and their phones aren’t reachable. The garbage collection guy hasn’t come either.” This observation sparked widespread concern among residents regarding the wellbeing of their support staff.
As panic spread, another Redditor explained that the exodus was related to intensified immigration checks targeting domestic helpers and sanitation workers. “They’re not fleeing; they’re being taken to detention centers in Manesar,” they clarified. This revelation resonated with many, as reports emerged detailing the mistreatment of workers. One concerned resident recounted a heartfelt conversation with their maid, who claimed that despite having valid identification, workers were being forcibly detained and abused, with their phones being switched off.
Reports suggest that police have cracked down on areas with significant populations of Bengali workers, with some residents alleging that authorities are wrongfully detaining individuals based on their ethnicity. A multitude of domestic staff have fled to their villages out of fear of mistreatment.
