The Mizoram government has given the green light for four companies to set up ginger processing units in the state, an official announced on Monday. This decision was reached during a meeting of the Empowered Committee on Investment, chaired by Chief Minister Lalduhoma. The companies approved include Sjar Consulting Private Limited from Uttar Pradesh, Opickpure Organic Pvt. Ltd. from Himachal Pradesh, AV Biotech from Rajasthan, and the local firm Lushai Organic.
This initiative follows the recent declaration of ginger as Mizoram’s flagship crop, aimed at promoting value addition and boosting farmers’ incomes. According to sources, Sjar Consulting Pvt. Ltd. has proposed an investment of ₹38 crore, which is expected to create over 200 jobs. Meanwhile, Opickpure Organic Pvt. Ltd. plans to invest ₹2.5 crore and provide around 50 job opportunities.
Additionally, AV Biotech has proposed to invest ₹13.95 crore, potentially generating about 100 employment opportunities, while Lushai Organic plans to invest ₹1 crore and hire 20 individuals.
In a bid to streamline the establishment process, a special investment committee has been set up to expedite required approvals. This committee will also draft the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and coordinate with the companies on various logistical aspects such as land, power, and water requirements.
Officials view this movement as a strategic effort to position Mizoram as a significant player in the regional ginger processing sector, promoting industrial growth while enhancing the local agrarian economy.
