Intense Showdown: Security Forces Clash with Terrorists in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir
An encounter between security forces and terrorists erupted in the Hadal Gal area of Kishtwar Sector in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, as reported by the Indian Army. The gunfight occurred during a cordon and search operation conducted by the police, supported by the Indian Army, in the Khandoo forest, situated between the Dachhan and Nagseni regions. This action was initiated following credible intelligence suggesting suspected terrorist movements in the area.
As the security teams approached, they were met with gunfire from the hidden terrorists, prompting a retaliatory response. The exchange of gunfire lasted for a while, but authorities confirmed that there have been no casualties reported so far. Additional reinforcements have been dispatched to the scene to bolster operational effectiveness. The exact number of terrorists involved in the encounter remains unconfirmed, and search operations are ongoing to locate and neutralize the threats.
This encounter comes just two days after Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP), Nalin Prabhat, assessed the security situation in the region. According to reports, during his visit to the Bhaderwah and Batote areas, the DGP stressed the need to dismantle both existing and newly emerging terrorist factions in the mountainous districts of Doda, Ramban, and Kishtwar. He highlighted the importance of enhancing the intelligence framework and conducting successful anti-terror operations.
DGP Prabhat was briefed on the current security landscape by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shridhar Patil and various district police chiefs during his visit to the range police headquarters in Batote. Their discussions centered on improving law and order, assessing anti-terror operations, and ensuring administrative readiness across the three districts.
In light of the ongoing threats, security forces are focused on tracking down approximately 40 to 50 active terrorists currently operating in the region. Reports indicate that the security situation remains stable and under control in Jammu, with security personnel maintaining vigilant oversight along key areas and the borders. Strategies including an anti-drone initiative, heightened deployments, and intensified night operations have been implemented to keep terrorist groups on high alert.
Official sources reveal that around 80 percent of the active terrorists in the region are suspected to be Pakistani nationals, based on intelligence assessments. The significance of these measures is underscored by the complex security environment in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the continuous need for proactive and coordinated efforts by security forces to mitigate the threat posed by armed groups.
As operations proceed, the pursuit of security in Jammu and Kashmir remains as critical as ever, with local authorities emphasizing the importance of both immediate and long-term strategies to ensure the safety of residents and stability in the region.
This evolving story will be monitored closely for updates.
