"Urgent Update: SCB Residents Now Mandated to Secure Permission for Borewell Drilling"
The Ministry of Defence has released a notification on August 12, mandating residents of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) to seek permission before drilling borewells. This new regulation sets a fee structure for obtaining permission, which is ₹3,000 for residential areas and ₹1,000 for slums and bastis. For commercial or industrial borewells that extract over 50 litres per day, an additional charge of ₹10 per kilolitre will be imposed.
A critical aspect of the notification involves the installation of flow meters. If a registered user either fails to install a flow metre or is found with a non-functional one, their registration could be suspended. To have the registration reinstated, an application must be submitted, accompanied by a ₹5,000 fee.
Additionally, the notification grants the Cantonment Board the authority to stop groundwater extraction at any time if justified reasons are documented. Another significant directive is the compulsory registration of all existing borewells within one month, necessitating awareness and prompt action from residents.
This gazette notification aims to regulate and monitor the extraction of groundwater within the Cantonment area, ensuring sustainable use of this critical resource. The detailed fee structure and the emphasis on functional flow meters underscore the administration’s commitment to oversight and resource management.
