Corruption Allegations Spark Controversy: Dhubri Guards Transferred
In a significant development that has raised serious concerns among forest department officials, two forest guards from the Dhubri Forest Division have been transferred amid allegations of bribery and corruption, while a third accused remains in position, prompting public speculation and unease. The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell recently received a formal complaint against three officials-Moktadur Shah, Manjil Hoque, and Safiul Alom Ahmed-accusing them of corrupt practices. This complaint is currently under preliminary investigation.
Following this, on July 14, 2025, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and Head of Forest Force (HoFF) in Assam issued a transfer order, relocating Manjil Hoque to the Nalbari Social Forestry Division and Safiul Alom Ahmed to the Barpeta Social Forestry Division, effectively removing them from their posts in Dhubri. However, the decision not to take similar action against Moktadur Shah, who remains with the Dhubri Forest Division, has drawn scrutiny. Shah had previously been suspended for alleged involvement in the illegal sale of forest land in the same region, yet he has managed to retain his position over the years.
This selective enforcement has led to criticism from local public interest groups and forest watchdogs, who are now voicing demands for a thorough and impartial investigation into all three officials involved. “Why is action being taken only against two while the third continues unscathed, despite a tainted record? This reeks of favoritism or internal protection,” stated a local activist, emphasizing the need for accountability within the department.
As the vigilance cell continues its initial probe, pressure is intensifying on forest authorities to ensure that justice is administered fairly, without bias or political interference. The outcome of this investigation may have far-reaching implications for the integrity of the forest department and public trust in local governance.
