Mizoram is set to gain a crucial railway link to the national capital, as Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced on Monday the approval of the Rajdhani Express service. This marks a significant advancement in the state’s railway connectivity. Speaking during the Remna Ni celebration in Aizawl, which commemorates the signing of the Mizoram Peace Accord, Lalduhoma confirmed that the Central Government has accepted the long-standing demand for an express train connecting Aizawl to Delhi.
The Chief Minister disclosed that he had recently met with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to advocate for the introduction of the Rajdhani service. He also urged the establishment of direct rail links between Aizawl and multiple cities including Delhi, Kolkata, and Agartala in Tripura. “The Railway Minister has complied with our request. We will get the Rajdhani express service. There will be train service between Aizawl and Delhi and two other cities — Tripura and Kolkata,” Lalduhoma stated.
The launch of the Rajdhani Express is expected to be a landmark development for Mizoram, significantly enhancing access to major metropolitan areas and promoting economic integration. At present, the state’s railway network is limited, and the addition of this service is anticipated to reduce travel times, encourage tourism, and open up new business opportunities within the region.
