Urgent: Massive Fire Erupts on Daund-Pune Train Due to Short Circuit
Panic overtook passengers on a Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) train traveling from Pune to Daund on Monday when a fire erupted during the journey. The fire, attributed to a short circuit in the toilet, led to a chaotic but heroic rescue effort.
Eyewitnesses reported that a man became trapped inside the toilet after the door jammed. As smoke filled the small space and his cries of distress pierced the air, fellow passengers quickly sprang into action. They forcefully broke down the toilet door just in time to pull him to safety, potentially averting a tragedy.
Fire and railway officials commended the swift response of the passengers, asserting that their quick actions likely saved the man’s life.
This incident follows a previous fire scare months earlier at Chhattisgarh’s Durg Railway Station, where an air-conditioned coach of an empty train caught fire while parked. That blaze, although it did not cause any injuries, was severe enough to destroy one entire coach, with flames visible from a great distance.
Firefighters, aided by railway staff, responded promptly, deploying three fire engines and managing to control the situation within half an hour.
In light of these incidents, railway officials have commenced investigations into both fires and stressed the urgent need for improved electrical safety audits and better emergency preparedness in passenger trains.
