
Govt Forms Committee to Investigate Urgent Air India Ahmedabad Crash
The death toll from the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad has risen to 254. The flight, which carried 242 individuals, included 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national, in addition to 12 crew members. Remarkably, only one survivor, a British national of Indian descent, has been reported. Mehul Shah, the President of the Gujarat chapter of the Indian Medical Association, confirmed that among the deceased were four medical students and the wife of a doctor.
In related developments, eight bodies from nearby residential areas affected by the crash have been identified and returned to their families. Blood samples from 219 relatives of the deceased have been collected to facilitate DNA identification. Currently, 31 injured individuals are receiving treatment at Civil Hospital, where medical staff are working tirelessly to provide critical care.
An investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. A team from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has retrieved the aircraft’s black box, formally known as the Flight Data Recorder, from the crash site. Forensic experts have commenced detailed examinations, and authorities say the cause of the crash will be determined following an extensive forensic and technical analysis.
Local health, police, and security teams remain on high alert, according to a correspondent from Akashvani. Emergency measures and support systems have been established to assist the families of the victims and the affected residents.
The state of Gujarat is in mourning following this catastrophic incident. The tragedy has left numerous families and communities grieving, especially since many of the passengers were from various regions within the state.
The administration has pledged full support to the victims’ families. A 24/7 control room has been set up at Civil Hospital to manage relief efforts, including arrangements for accommodation and transportation for grieving families. Across the state, condolence meetings and prayer gatherings are being organized to honor the victims. In a strong display of solidarity, many residents are coming forward to donate blood and offer assistance in any way possible.
