Assam CM Himanta Demands Justice for Rishikesh Woman’s Death
Guwahati, Jun 13 (PTI) – Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reached out to his Uttarakhand counterpart, Pushkar Singh Dhami, requesting an investigation into the death of Rosmita Hojai, a woman from Assam. Hojai, who hailed from Dima Hasao district, was reported missing in Rishikesh on June 6. Her body was discovered in the River Ganga five days later.
Sarma expressed his distress over Hojai’s death and the circumstances surrounding it. In a post on X, he stated, “I have personally requested the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Shri @pushkardhamiji to examine the issue, so that justice can be delivered.” According to information provided by Hojai’s family, she had traveled to Delhi for a recruitment exam and was last seen accompanying two individuals to Rishikesh.
The Chief Minister raised serious concerns about potential foul play, noting that the circumstances of her disappearance and death were troubling. The mother of the deceased has filed a zero FIR in Assam, which has since been forwarded to the appropriate police station in Uttarakhand.
In his letter, Sarma urged Dhami to ensure a thorough and timely investigation that considers all possible avenues. He stressed the emotional turmoil Hojai’s family is facing and requested swift action if any criminal involvement is uncovered, stating that “responsible individuals should be identified, apprehended, and prosecuted in accordance with the law to ensure that justice is delivered.”
