Guwahati: In an effort to quell rising communal tensions in Dhubri, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has issued a “shoot-at-sight” order aimed at preventing further unrest in the area. This drastic measure was prompted by the discovery of what appeared to be cow remains, potentially from beef, at a Hanuman temple, inciting local outrage.

Sarma arrived in Dhubri around 11 am on Friday to directly evaluate the law and order situation. Upon reaching the Circuit House, he convened a high-level meeting with senior officials from both the district administration and police.

Prior to the Chief Minister’s visit, the Dhubri police had intensified security measures across key locations in the town to maintain public order.

Addressing the media after the review meeting, Sarma confirmed the enforcement of the shoot-at-sight orders, stating that authorities would act swiftly against anyone engaging in unlawful activities, including incidents of stone-pelting. This directive will take effect from tonight.

To reinforce peace and order, Sarma has directed law enforcement to arrest all known offenders in the district immediately. He condemned what he termed “fundamentalist threats” from across the border, alleging that external forces from Bangladesh are working to destabilize the region.

“I will not allow such elements to disrupt the peace in Dhubri,” he declared emphatically.

The Chief Minister also shared updates on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, where he indicated a commitment to uphold law and order in the district. He tweeted about the situation in Dhubri during Bakri Eid, emphasizing their determination to counteract communal forces.

Furthermore, he stated, “A new beef mafia has emerged in Dhubri which procured thousands of animals just ahead of Eid.” He assured that investigations are underway and that those responsible will face justice.

Sarma’s administration continues to monitor the evolving situation closely as they implement measures to maintain stability in the region.
