Databricks, a leading player in data analytics software, announced an ambitious projection of $3.7 billion in annualized revenue by July, reflecting a remarkable 50% year-over-year growth. CFO Dave Conte revealed these figures during a briefing at the company’s Data and AI Summit held in San Francisco on June 11, 2025. Databricks experienced even more impressive growth in the previous October quarter, reporting a staggering 60% increase.

Recognized as one of the industry’s most valuable tech startups, Databricks raised $10 billion in December 2024, resulting in a valuation of $62 billion. This positions the company as a formidable competitor to Snowflake, its nearest public rival, which boasts a market capitalization of approximately $70 billion and annualized revenue exceeding $4 billion.

In the fiscal year ending in January, Databricks generated $2.6 billion in revenue, maintaining an impressive net retention rate of over 140%. In the first quarter of the new fiscal year, nearly 50 customers within Databricks’ network of over 15,000 were reported to spend more than $10 million each year. Conte emphasized the company’s commitment to achieving a balance between revenue growth, product development, and profitability, stating, “We want to combine good revenue growth and good product velocity with profitability.”

With a workforce of approximately 8,000 employees, Databricks plans to expand its team by hiring an additional 3,000 in 2025. Conte noted that the company is on the verge of achieving positive free cash flow for the first time in its most recent fiscal year.

Databricks faces competition not only from Snowflake but also from major cloud service providers that offer proprietary data warehousing solutions. In a strategic move, the company announced a preview of its Lakebase database software, leveraging technology from its recent $1 billion acquisition of startup Neon. This development is expected to significantly broaden Databricks’ market opportunity.
