Pop icon Miley Cyrus recently opened up about her past struggles with drug use and how she managed to conceal her narcotics expenses from her accountant. During an episode of The Ringer’s podcast, “Every Single Album,” the 32-year-old singer-songwriter reflected on her mental state while working on albums like “Bangerz” and “Endless Summer Vacation,” offering insights into her life during that tumultuous period.
Discussing her 2015 album “Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz,” Cyrus revealed that much of her money was spent on drugs, which she cleverly disguised as purchases of vintage clothing. “The drugs were the biggest cost, which to hide those from my accountant, we called them vintage clothes,” she explained. The singer mentioned that this kind of financial deception often occurs on tours where discrepancies can easily arise.
As her accountant became curious about the expenses labeled as “vintage clothes,” Cyrus assured her that the items were valuable and needed special care. “Every time she saw me, she’d be like, ‘Where’s that, like, $15,000 original John Lennon T-shirt that you bought?’ And I’d say, ‘Oh, it’s upstairs,’” she recalled, emphasizing her desire to keep the matter discreet.
As she continued to reflect on “Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz,” Cyrus expressed gratitude for overcoming that challenging chapter in her life. “I’m so glad I survived that time in my life,” she stated. While acknowledging her past, she advised others not to follow the same path she did. “I would definitely not encourage anyone else to go this hard, but the fact that I got through it, I’m very glad I got to do it.”
Cyrus has been transparent about her sobriety journey over the years. In a 2017 interview, she mentioned feeling like she was “evolving” after leaving substance abuse behind.
