Supriya Sule Urges Congress to Show Patience: A Call for Unity Amidst Special Parliament Session Challenges

NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule clarified on Thursday why her party chief, Sharad Pawar, did not sign a joint letter from the Congress-led INDIA bloc, which called for a special Parliament session. The letter aimed to address the recent Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. Sule explained that she was unable to sign the letter because she was representing India on a productive multi-nation outreach tour spanning four countries: Qatar, South Africa, Egypt, and Ethiopia.

During a press conference in Baramati, Sule emphasized the party’s consistent stance that a parliamentary debate is unwarranted while Operation Sindoor is still ongoing. "I couldn’t sign the letter because I was abroad, advocating for my country. My efforts fostered strong ties and solidarity with the leadership of all four nations, who condemned terrorism unequivocally," she stated. She reiterated that these countries reaffirmed a commitment to peace and highlighted that terrorism knows no boundaries.

Sule underscored the historical and cultural connections that India shares with these nations, noting, "They recognize India as the birthplace of revered leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru."

Additionally, Sule called on the Congress party to delay their demands until the multi-party delegations have returned. Citing Sharad Pawar’s consistent view that all political factions should unite on issues concerning national security, she reiterated the importance of presenting a unified front while discussing such matters abroad. "I couldn’t advocate for a special session while simultaneously representing India’s interests internationally," she asserted.

Sule assured that, once the Parliament’s monsoon session commences, the NCP (SP) will raise pertinent questions regarding both the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor. She believes that the inquiry into these issues is critical, even if the immediate demand for a special session could have been postponed until all delegations returned home.

Earlier, a coalition of 16 opposition parties had penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging a special parliamentary session focused on the recent terror incident and operational details surrounding Operation Sindoor. Sule’s perspective suggests that such discussions could have waited, allowing for a more coordinated response once the diplomatic missions concluded.

This ongoing dialogue highlights the complexities of Indian politics, especially concerning issues of national security and international diplomacy. As developments unfold, the NCP (SP) remains committed to its stance while navigating the intricate relations between governmental responsibilities and international obligations.
