Minister Calls on Assamese Community in Arunachal for Unity and Harmony
Urban Affairs, Land Management, and Civil Aviation Minister Balo Raja has urged the Assamese community in Arunachal Pradesh, particularly in the capital region, to act as a cultural bridge between Arunachal and Assam amid ongoing boundary discussions. Speaking at the Dorjee Khandu Convention Hall in Itanagar during the Golden Jubilee celebration of Kristi Kendra Naharlagun, Raja highlighted the community’s unique position as being “deeply rooted in Assamese tradition yet closely connected with Arunachali society.” He stressed that their involvement could significantly contribute to fostering dialogue, peace, and mutual understanding between the two neighboring states.
Raja praised Kristi Kendra for its vital role over the past 50 years in preserving the Assamese language, literature, and cultural identity within Arunachal Pradesh, calling it a symbol of cultural resilience and peaceful coexistence. His remarks were complemented by Padma Shri awardee and prominent Assamese writer YD Thongchi, who emphasized the broader cultural impact of Kristi Kendra. Thongchi noted that the organization has promoted mutual respect and artistic collaboration across communities, establishing itself as a crucial space for literature and heritage in the region.
The event featured an array of cultural performances from both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, including traditional Bihu dance, local folk traditions, and group songs. Founding members and long-serving contributors to Kristi Kendra were honored for their dedication since its establishment in 1974.
The two-day celebration, which marks 50 years of Kristi Kendra’s work, concluded with additional cultural showcases and addresses from senior community figures, underscoring the continuing importance of cultural ties in the region.
