Tragic Loss: Heart-Wrenching Brazil Plane Crash Claims All 62 Lives On Board
A regional turboprop plane with 62 passengers onboard crashed near Sao Paulo, Brazil, resulting in no survivors, local officials confirmed. The disaster occurred on Friday in Valinhos, adjacent to Vinhedo, with footage shared on social media depicting the ATR-made aircraft spiraling uncontrollably before descending behind a treeline and erupting into a black smoke plume. The aircraft, operated by Voepass and en route from Cascavel in Parana to Sao Paulo’s main international airport, went down approximately 80 km northwest of its destination.
City authorities reported minimal collateral damage as only one home in a condominium complex was affected, while residents remained unharmed. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, addressing the nation at an event shortly after the crash, expressed his condolences and called for a moment of silence in memory of those who perished.
Voepass, the airline operating the ATR 72-500 turboprop with registration PS-VPB, did not provide immediate details regarding the cause of the accident. In response to the crash, Sao Paulo’s state fire brigade deployed seven crews to the accident site swiftly.
The ATR 72-500, produced by a joint venture between Airbus and Italian aerospace company Leonardo, has not raised an immediate response from its manufacturers following the incident.
This tragic event not only brings to light the vulnerabilities in air travel but also underscores the need for rigorous safety inspections and measures to prevent such disasters in the future. The aviation community awaits further investigation results to understand the root cause of this calamity.
