Two Terror Associates Nabbed in Shopian: Shocking Arms Seized!
Two associates of the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were arrested on Thursday in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir during a coordinated security operation. The operation involved the Army’s 44 Rashtriya Rifles, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 178 Battalion in the Baskuchan area of Imam Sahib.
Security forces confiscated a significant cache of weapons during the operation, including two AK-56 rifles, four magazines, and two hand grenades, along with additional ammunition. They also seized ₹5,400 in cash and an Aadhaar card from the suspects. The arrested individuals, identified as Irfan Bashir and Uzair Salam, surrendered peacefully, thereby averting a potential confrontation.
In a statement, a police spokesperson highlighted the successful execution of the cordon and search operation, which effectively sealed off the area and monitored terrorist movements in a nearby orchard. This decisive action led to the peaceful surrender of the two hybrid terrorists.
The arrests come amid heightened security efforts, particularly in southern Kashmir, following the deadly attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran valley on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people. The terrorists involved in that attack are still on the loose, believed to be hiding in the dense forests of the surrounding meadows. Ongoing searches by law enforcement agencies are aimed at capturing these individuals.
Earlier this month, six terrorists were killed in separate clashes, three in the Keller area of Shopian and the others in the Nadar area of Tral in Pulwama. This recent operation reflects the continued efforts of security forces to counter terrorism in the region. This is a developing story.
