Donald Trump Reveals Powerful Insight on Putin’s Intentions: ‘I’ll Let You Know in Two Weeks’
During a recent press engagement in the Oval Office, former President Donald Trump was asked about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s sincerity regarding the desire to end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Trump responded cautiously, stating, “I can’t tell you that. But I’ll let you know in about two weeks. We’re going to find out very soon whether or not he’s tapping us along.” He indicated that, depending on the situation’s developments, his response to Putin could change significantly.
Trump also expressed disappointment over a series of recent Russian military strikes, commenting, “I was disappointed by the barrage of strikes in recent days.” This sentiment reflects his ongoing, measured approach to evaluating Putin’s intentions amid a conflict that has escalated significantly.
Just last month, Trump echoed similar concerns about potential Russian deception, warning that if it turned out Russia was merely prolonging discussions without genuine intent to negotiate peace, he would take a different stance. To date, however, no additional actions have been initiated against Russia.
On April 26, Trump was vocally critical of Putin regarding missile attacks that targeted civilian areas in Ukraine. At that time, he remarked, “There’s no reason for such strikes,” suggesting that perhaps Putin does not truly desire peace but is instead “just tapping me along.” He hinted at potential ramifications for Russia, mentioning options like “Banking” or “Secondary Sanctions.”
On May 27, Trump delivered a sharp warning to Putin, asserting that the Russian leader is “playing with fire.” This comment coincided with the U.S. contemplating new sanctions against Russia in light of ongoing tensions. Trump expressed on his Truth Social platform, “What Vladimir Putin doesn’t realize is that if it weren’t for me, lots of really bad things would have already happened to Russia, and I mean REALLY BAD.” However, he did not elaborate on what those consequences might entail.
As frustration with Putin mounts, Trump has previously characterized the Russian leader’s behavior as “absolutely CRAZY,” particularly following a significant drone attack that resulted in the deaths of at least 13 individuals in Ukraine. “I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him,” Trump commented, underscoring a visible shift in his tone.
Despite recent indications from Putin that he would be open to initiating peace talks, Russia’s ongoing military assaults have further complicated diplomatic efforts. In response, Russian officials have accused Ukraine and certain European nations of undermining peace negotiations. The Kremlin has also reported intercepting thousands of Ukrainian drones, including threats directed at Moscow.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has firmly denied responsibility for the civilian casualties resulting from drone strikes and is advocating for tougher sanctions against Russia. Earlier in May, a fragile glimmer of hope for diplomatic progress emerged when Russia and Ukraine conducted their first direct talks in over three years in Istanbul. However, the persistent military aggression from Russia casts a shadow over these diplomatic efforts, leaving the future of peace negotiations uncertain.
As these developments unfold, the global community watches closely, anticipating how international dynamics and responses will evolve in this enduring conflict.
