Assam CM and Railway Minister Forge Plans for Swift Rail Expansion
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday at Rail Bhawan to address long-standing transport issues and improve railway infrastructure in Assam. The meeting aimed to enhance railway connectivity, modernize facilities, and streamline operational processes, positioning Assam as a key logistics hub in Northeast India.
Both leaders emphasized the necessity of coordinated efforts to tackle logistical challenges that have historically impeded growth and connectivity in the region. Vaishnaw highlighted Assam’s strategic role in India’s transportation network and reaffirmed the Railways Ministry’s commitment to infrastructure upgrades and supporting the state’s economic transformation through efficient logistics.
The discussion involved high-ranking officials, including Assam Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. K.K. Dwivedi, and Resident Commissioner of Assam Bhawan, Kavitha Padmanabhan. Officials described the nearly hour-long meeting as constructive and future-oriented.
Afterward, Sarma shared his insights on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Always a pleasure to meet Hon’ble Minister Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw Ji. Today we spoke at length on several efforts to mitigate legacy transport bottlenecks and expand Assam’s rail infrastructure. These are crucial check marks as we plan to build a logistics hub in the State.”
