EAM S Jaishankar Thanks Germany for Supporting India’s Anti-Terror Efforts
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar expressed gratitude for Germany’s support in India’s fight against terrorism and its right to self-defense. Speaking at the German Council on Foreign Relations in Berlin, he noted that India appreciated Germany’s early condemnation of a recent terrorist attack and the supportive message from Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, affirming India’s right to defend itself.
Dr. Jaishankar emphasized that India has the right to protect itself and its citizens, a sentiment likely shared by many nations, including Germany. He specifically criticized Pakistan for long using terrorism as a tool and for harboring terrorists. He condemned the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, highlighting it as part of a broader pattern targeting not only Jammu and Kashmir but other regions of India as well.
The Minister pointed out that such attacks aim to instill fear and harm the tourism economy while fostering religious discord. Regarding India’s response, he stated that the campaign against terrorism has focused on targeting terrorist bases and sites, garnering significant international support.
Additionally, Dr. Jaishankar discussed the strengthening of India-Germany relations, stressing that both nations would benefit from enhanced cooperation in defense and security.
