Sikkim’s 50-Year Journey: A Triumph of Resilience and Growth at India Today Conclave
NEW DELHI, (IPR): The India Today Group, in partnership with the Department of Information & Public Relations and the Tourism & Civil Aviation department, hosted a significant event titled ‘State of The States Sikkim@50.’ This event celebrated Sikkim’s remarkable journey, marking 50 years of statehood and highlighting the strategic role of the state in India’s development.
Held at the Hyatt Regency in Bhikaji Cama Place, New Delhi, the event gathered a diverse group of leaders, policymakers, educators, entrepreneurs, innovators, investors, and cultural icons to showcase Sikkim’s achievements and its vision for the future. The day began with a welcome address from Raj Chengappa, Group Editorial Director of India Today, paving the way for insightful discussions and inspiring speeches.
The session featured Sikkim’s Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, who presented ‘The Glorious Journey & the Illustrious Road Ahead.’ He emphasized the transformative progress the state has made and outlined future aspirations. Key progress areas discussed included quality education, healthcare, connectivity, and multilingual instruction. He also highlighted successful state afforestation policies through unique initiatives like ‘Mero Rukh Mero Santati,’ ‘Shishu Samridhhi Yojana,’ and ‘Mero Bato Mero Bot.’
The Chief Minister underscored the state’s commitment to empowering entrepreneurs and advancing ongoing government initiatives focused on sustainable and inclusive growth. His remarks reflected Sikkim’s emergence as a model of balanced development, integrating infrastructure improvements with social welfare and economic opportunities.
In his second term, he spoke about laying robust foundations for the next 25 years, emphasizing innovation, sustainability, education, youth empowerment, and inclusive governance. As Sikkim approaches its 50th anniversary as the 22nd state of India, he reaffirmed his commitment to building upon past successes while setting ambitious new targets.
On this milestone, the Chief Minister laid out a bold vision for Sikkim’s future, aligning with the national goal of ‘Viksit Bharat @2047,’ while stressing the importance of national security. In concluding remarks, he credited Sikkim’s advancements since 2014 to the unwavering support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government. He expressed that the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit is a significant blessing for Sikkim and highlights the government’s commitment to the state’s welfare.
Finally, the Chief Minister extended his gratitude to the India Today Group for organizing such an important event and congratulated the group on reaching 50 remarkable years of its journey.
