Centre Invites Bids for Rs 600 Crore Jorhat–Majuli Bridge Project
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Wednesday that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has officially issued the tender for the highly awaited Jorhat–Majuli Bridge. The proposed bridge, measuring 6.81 kilometers and designed with two lanes, is estimated to cost ₹600.51 crore. Its primary goal is to create an all-weather, permanent road link between Jorhat and the river island district of Majuli. This project is expected to greatly diminish reliance on ferry services and significantly improve the safety and efficiency of travel for both residents and tourists.
On the social media platform X, the Chief Minister expressed his enthusiasm about the development, saying, “Great news for Assam. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has today floated the tender for the much-awaited Jorhat–Majuli Bridge-a 6.81 km, 2-lane bridge with an estimated cost of ₹600.51 crore. My heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Union Minister Nitin Gadkari Ji for making this effort into a reality.”
The bridge project has experienced delays in recent years, mainly due to rising costs and the necessity for technical revisions. However, this new tendering represents a significant advancement in the state’s ongoing efforts to enhance intra-state connectivity and improve transportation infrastructure.
