GANGTOK, (IPR): Sikkim celebrated the golden jubilee of its statehood with a commemorative event at Manan Kendra, honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to the state. The ceremony was attended by Governor Om Prakash Mathur, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, and Chief Justice Biswanath Somadder. The state government recognized several luminaries across various sectors for their contributions to public service, culture, and community development.
Among the honorees were renowned personalities such as Padma Shri awardees Danny Denzongpa for Art, Gadul Singh Lama for Literature, and Tarundeep Rai, an Olympian. Other recipients included notable figures like Bhaichung Bhutia for Football, Norden Tshering Bhutia for Literature, and Khandu Wangchuk Bhutia for Thangka Painting, highlighting the diverse fields where Sikkimese individuals have excelled.
In addition to the awards, the Tourism department launched the “Sikkim Darshan” website and mobile application, along with an online payment system for tourism establishments. The Information and Public Relations department screened a documentary titled “Echoes of Sikkim,” which depicted the state’s journey since it joined the Indian Union in 1975.
The cultural segment featured a Broadway production titled “Ekai Maato Anek Rang,” directed by Rimp Dorjee Lepcha and Culture officer Tshering Leizum Bhutia. This performance celebrated Sikkim’s rich heritage and cultural integration, showcasing various state welfare schemes such as Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana and Vatsalya Yojana.
The event was also marked by the attendance of various dignitaries, including members of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly and representatives from all ethnic community associations in the state. It concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, encapsulating the spirit of unity and pride in Sikkim’s fifty-year journey as a state.
