A robbery attempt in the Ketekibari area near Nityananda in Bajali district, Assam, turned violent on the night of May 12, injuring a local youth who intervened against armed robbers. The individual, identified as Jayanta Kalita, suffered serious head injuries after being struck with a sharp weapon while trying to assist local businessman Achyut Kalita, who was targeted by three unidentified assailants.
Witnesses reported that the incident unfolded when the robbers intercepted Achyut Kalita on the road. Jayanta Kalita rushed to help, but was met with a brutal attack from the gang. He was quickly taken to Shaheed Madan-Rauta Civil Hospital in Pathsala, where he is currently receiving treatment for his injuries.
In response to the incident, police have initiated a manhunt to locate the suspects. The rising rates of criminal activity in the area have raised alarm among residents, prompting calls for increased night patrolling and enhanced security measures to ensure community safety.
