
Police Crackdown: Arms Dealers and Drug Peddlers Arrested in Manipur
Security forces in Manipur have arrested multiple individuals in a series of operations over the past 24 hours, focusing on illegal arms dealers, extortionists, and drug traffickers, as tensions in the state remain high yet manageable.
In a significant arms trafficking crackdown, three men—Naorem Naocha Meitei, alias Chinglakpa (38), Leishangthem Inaoton Singh, alias Aphao (23), and Ayekpam Boiboy Meitei, alias Ishanta Meitei (26)—were apprehended in Puhkhao Ahallup Makha Leikai, Imphal East District. One of the arrested is reportedly an active member of the UNLF (Pambei) faction. Authorities seized an INSAS rifle, a magazine, eight 7.62mm rounds, and three mobile phones during the operation. The estimated value of these weapons for illegal sale is approximately Rs. 3.5 lakh.
In related operations against insurgent-led extortion, Khundongbam Prithibiraj Meitei, alias Sathiba (23), a member of the KCP (PWG), was arrested in Thoubal District. He is accused of extorting local businesses, with police recovering a hand grenade, a mobile phone, and a two-wheeler from his possession. Additional arrests include Salam Karan Singh, alias Ningthoulakpa (21), from KCP (MFL), and Khangembam Apui Meitei Nongpoknganba (26) and Moirangthem Alex Meitei (23) from PREPAK, all allegedly involved in threatening and extorting residents in various districts.
Meanwhile, in a notable drug bust, the Manipur Police apprehended Mungsanglian, alias David (33), in Churachandpur District, seizing 112 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar, weighing a combined 1,267 grams. Additionally, in Thoubal District, officers arrested a woman named Fatima (44), who was found with 51 bottles of a banned cough syrup containing Codeine Phosphate and Tripolidine HCl, marketed as TUSSREX-TR.
Efforts to recover stolen vehicles are ongoing, with authorities having retrieved six vehicles during a dedicated operation. To facilitate the safe movement of essential goods, security forces have established 110 checkpoints in vulnerable areas throughout the state.
Officials are urging the public to remain vigilant and to resist falling for rumors or manipulated content on social media. They have warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone spreading false information.
